THE CHEAPNESS

I guess I get triggers from my "blog-bys" but I was checking out Sivads blog and the issue of "things we do for men" came up. I don't do much anymore from a traumatic experience in the 80's. It's funny how the lives of others can trigger memories but anyway,.....

It was 1986, I was dating a guy named LeRoy (pronounced La-Roi (when he knew it was Lee-roy)). I don't know how long we dated, maybe a month or two, but in high school it was serious. We were in love. I had his jacket and class ring. I was "THIS" close to walking down the aisle. Anyway, we were to exchage gifts for Christmas. I worked at the Mall. In the 80's, Coca Cola Clothes were the BOMB! I purchased a Coca-Cola Jersey for him. I saved all my money just to get that jersey (i wanted it for myself so you know it was flyy). Then, it was time to trade gifts. The man I could invision being married to accepted his jersey with such joy and happiness. I knew, he knew how much I cared. Then it was time for me to see how much he cared for me. He handed me this HUGE box. My eyes lit up because I knew my gift would be just as good. I tore all the paper and broke open the box. My smile quickly turned to a WTF look and what did I see? A thin ass flowered shirt with a f-ing BROACH in the middle! There wasn't even a LIMITED tag on it (and you know, in the 80's, EVERYTHING had to come from The Limited, EXPRESS, Benneton or ESPRIT) WTF! I got you Coca-Cola Clothes and you got me this? (excuse the materialism but i WAS in high school, MAN!) Since then, I vowed to never buy gifts to impress a guy if I was supposed to get one in return.....I ALWAYS GET JIPPED!

**The lesson**Unless you are already married, have kids, best friend or you don't care about the crap you get......DON'T DO IT! Oh yeah, he never got his jacket back. He had to learn. I know I'm wrong, but oh well.

I know it's bad. I can hold a grudge. If I saw him today, I would think,...."Yeah, you are the one that gave me that cheap ass shirt!" He will forever go down in the crappy boyfriend hall of fame with "THE CHEAPNESS!" over his head. Has someone ever burst your bubble with a crappy gift? Do you feel jipped when you have to swap names and you are supposed to spend $10bucks on a gift and you know darn well the person that pulled your name got your gift from the 99cent store? Am I wrong for feeling this way? Truthfully, I have grown from this experience and I am not as bitter. I take pride in the gifts I purchase for people. But thanks to "The Cheapness," I am slightly scarred.

###this just in,....KELLY won on the Apprentice tonight. EVA, Kelly,....do you think we can do 3 out of 3 and Moe is the biggest loser?##########

ha ha ha the things we do as teenagers, but hey your're all grown up now (i would hope) and such things won't even phase you. But just thinking back is all the revenge you need.

I can't stand cheap people lol. I think back to valentines day my senior year of h.s. I spent my hard earned money from my 5.75/hr job to buy food and a gift for my boyfriend on valentines day. I made no cheap meal lol fettucini with homemade alfredo sauce and lobster and a damn gift lol. What did I get a card and freaking drugstore russel stovers chocolate and he knew my disdain for chocolate lol. I hate cheapness lol

Good morning from one FUNKEEDVA to a funky diva :)

lol...all these yrs I have been married, my husband still has not mastered the art of gift buying. I'd like to think I am a great gift buyer. I takes people's needs into consideration....but I do not really expect anything in retrun that would surpass the fabulousness of my gift..so, I am used to it. I remember when my hubby and I were dating, he went to Seattle and I asked him to bring me back something nice...he brought back a tshirt...and it was mad corny! lol So, I guess I can relate to the people who get the shirt saying My friend went to Africa and all I got was this lousy tshirt :)

I've only had one boyfriend who could buy gifts and that was only because he would ask my mom what to get me before he bought it. My ex bought me a curling iron for my birthday a couple of years ago. He said I had been saying I needed to get a new one so he bought me one. So on his birthday I bought him a pack of pencils. He looked at me like I was crazy so I said "the other day you were saying how you keep losing your pencils and you needed to get some, so I got you some." I actually had another present for him, but I just wanted to show him how it felt.

Cheap people annoy me. One of my uncles is the worst! My aunt took care of him for a couple of weeks when he broke his leg. She drove him around, brought him food, ran errands for him. And do you know what this negro did for her as a "reward"? Do ya know? Can you guess? He told her he would take her out to eat one day. So they went to WENDY'S! And he told her she could get a biggie sized meal. WTF?

I couldn't believe it at first because it sounds like something off of Comic View, but he actually did that! *smh that he's in my family* lol :)

P.S. Thanks for your comment in my blog *hugs*

lol, its not the cost of the gift that matters its the thought :-)
Actually I'd rather just not buy anything than buy something I think wouldnt be appreciated.

I'm LOL at the Coca-Cola clothes! I used to LOVE those shirts. I had a red and white one. You couldn't tell me sh*t. Then I messed around and spilled something on that mug. It stained. My parents never got me another. *sigh* Anyway, this was a funny entry. Nothing like getting cheaped ass gifts. Especially when you know you gave them a gift that damn sho wasn't cheap.

Cheapskates? Well that's a title easy to earn, hard to burn. There truly is a fine art to gift giving. Its balance of spending and selecting just the right thing. Usually I get something right in the middle of not being Dollar Treeish and going over board, which is hard but I feel like I have good taste. I have decided that gift cards are wonderful, never go wrong gifts. If I'm dating I tend to buy really nice gifts. If its like an office thing, I stick to the limit. I remember one year I was dating this girl and she gave me plastic computer covers for my computer, however, I knew she did not have money for Christmas so why I wasn't thrilled I was glad she gave me something. Hence the saying it is much better to give than to receive.

**About America's Next Top Model, I'm very happy for Eva. Finally the next BLACk Top Model. I would like to comment on how the judges and especially Tyra PLAYED YaYa. They cooked her up a big pot of "you thought you were going to win". Then they give it to her. I guess Tyra wanted to make a clear point about having too much ego. I couldn't help but to wonder how Yaya felt when Tyra 1. made the comment that Yaya's picture looked just like one of hers and 2. when she told yaya on her "next" runway stroll have more emotions in her face "as if" she would be having more runway chances very soon. I bet Yaya wanted to just pass out when she lost..hard lesson.

That fool needed to learn...you do not give ANYBODY clothing with cheap ass jewelry attached...it's guaranteed to be urgly, urgly, urgly, and unwelcome. Remember: if it COMES with "jewelry," leave it at the store!
