NEW ORLEANS HEARTBREAK

i have so much work to do. so much to get done before the holiday. i have been glued to the tv and internet, watching footage of all the goings on in New Orleans. i have been fighting back tears. this is a place i have never visited. i got my degree in music. my music professors were black so instead of classical, they would always school us on our rich heritage and the part that showcased jazz, it's birth and growth. i learned about jelly roll morton & scott joplin. i learned about ragtime and other early forms of jazz as we know it. it all started in New Orleans. i felt obligated to see this beautiful historic place. i wanted to see funeral processions and taste some cajun cuisine. now, it's gone.

what really hurts is to see so many of GOD's kids, our people,...in so much pain. i am doing all that i can do, along with my station and company to make some sort of difference. i still feel helpless. where are the fucking superheroes when you need them?

then, i see more footage of looting. this lady i work with (just married a lawyer who purchased her a jaguar) said, "oh jazz, isn't it just horrible?" so i said (thinking of all the people that lost EVERYTHING!), "it breaks my heart, i wouldn't know what to do or where to go" She says, "No Jazz, I think it's a shame that those people are looting like that!"

******I needed a moment to get my thoughts together *********
I realize that I must explain this with sesitivity and then I say,....

"Okay so, imagine losing EVERYTHING!!! YOU HAVE NOTHING!!! ONLY THE CLOTHES ON YOUR BACK, NO BATH, NO ATM CARD, NO ID, NO PHONE, KIDS CRYING, NO NOTHING! YOU HAVE NOTHING! YOU CAN'T EVEN GO TO A FRIENDS HOUSE BECAUSE NOTHINGS THERE. YOU CAN'T GO TO THE BANK, EVEN IF YOU HAD MONEY IN IT BECAUSE....THERE IS NOTHING THERE!!! THE WORLD AS YOU KNOW IT DOES NOT EXIST. DEAD BODIES ARE FLOATING BY, PEOPLE SITTING ON ROOF TOPS. YOU MEAN TO TELL ME YOU WOULDN'T LOSE IT! PEOPLE ARE NOW IN SURVIVAL MODE. YOU DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO TO SURVIVE. PUT YOURSELF IN SOMEONE ELSES SHOES. THERE IS NO PLAN B FOR SHIT LIKE THIS. THE VERY PEOPLE THAT ARE THERE TO HELP (LIKE POLICE) HAVE GIVEN UP, THE MAYOR HAS EVEN ESCAPED THE CITY. OUR JIVE ASS PRESIDENT THAT YOUR PUNK ASS PUT IN OFFICE ASSURES THE AMERICAN PEOPLE THAT HELP IS ON THE WAY. WHEN WE ALL KNOW THAT IT TOOK THE MILITARY FAR LESS TIME TO INVADE IRAQ AND DROP FOOD THAN IT'S TAKING TO HELP A SMALL CITY IN LOUISIANA TO RECEIVE ASSISTANCE. THINK ABOUT THE SHIT YOU SAY. IT'S SAD THAT THINGS HAVE COME TO THIS BUT HONESTLY, WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU WOULD DO IF YOU SAW NO WAY OUT? "

look at this footage

she said, "anyway, i just think it's a shame."

the injustice of it all, pisses me off.....check out diva's blog entry

IT'S AMAZING TO ME HOW SOME PEOPLE CAN JUST DISCONNECT. THIS ONE RACEST LADY SAID THAT THE PEOPLE IN NEW ORLEANS SHOULD BE LEFT THERE. AS IF THEY ARE JUST ANIMALS AND DON'T DESERVE TO BE TREATED LIKE HUMAN BEINGS. IT ENRAGES ME.....AND BUSH SUCKS!

lots of folks are speaking that way about the looting though. to me the looting is as you said the result of people being in survival mode. yep some of things stolen may seem to us to be unnecessary but hey its a power vacuum and folks will get carried away plus when you're poor and disenfrancished and no-one gives a crap about you and a chance like this comes along well i guess i cant really blame them.

Anyway i hope that things in the big easy are sorted out quickly. i always get really upset when i see these natural disasters especially hurricanes and their aftermath. i got some rage to let out.

All we can do is get together, pray hard and help anyway that we can. While loved ones, victims and strangers fight their way through this ordeal, here's hoping that the next several days and weeks bring some form of solace one way or the other for these folks. God bless them all..

It truly is heartbreaking. I feel so helpless. I wish that I was already in the field working so that I could be front line for the public health emergencies there. I guess I'll get my chance soon enough. Gotta stay on my knees about this one...

Girl... I feel ya, I'm trying my best to hold back tears of sadness and utter disbelief, as I sit here typing this! I really am speachless! I can't believe that our LEADERS are so worried and concerned about fighting a war in another country that they couldn't be bothered with helping our own!!! (and that's a hole nutha post/comment section of it's own) I know this isn't about race or poverty or whatever, but then again... I can't help but feel that if this natural disaster would have happened in an affluent city or state... Those fucking assholes would have been "on the scene and in command" a long ass time ago!!! It's sad, but it's true and it makes me sick to my stomache that we live in a world filled with such asinine hypocrisies.... I feel so bad for these innocent people... I don't know what I would do, but I think I would definitely loose my mind! I can't even imagine!!!!!

~Sorry if my comment is all jacked up, the words aren't flowing easily!!!! Go figure!

~P.S... Have I told you I'm glad you're back yet??? Ok, just checking. LOL!
